1st Annual Borden DFRPG Awards (2010)
« on: May 05, 2011, 06:56:06 PM »
An idea I came up with while thinking about the number of DFRPG Games on-site.  We, as a community, should recognize excellent games, gamers, and GMs.  My idea is for impromptu awards (June 15th- Nominations until June 1st).  Winners will be decided by popular vote.

General Guidelines:
*The nominee must have premiered 2010- the game must have begun official play before January 1st.  The PC/NPC/quote must have also been presented before January 1st, 2011.
*Anyone can make a nomination, but it needs two votes of approval from members not involved with the relevant game.
*The game must be able to verified (aka game members on-site have heard of the nominee- PbP on site are the primary example, but a well-known game off-site, such as Undertown, can be nominated).
*Voting will be June 1st- 14th, the winners announced the day after.

Categories:
Favorite PC:  The crowd favorite- the most memorable or inspiring Player Character.
Favorite NPC: A classic villain, murderous Fae, iconic hero, or conflicted anti-hero? As long as it wasn't a Player Character.
Best Quote: The quip from battle you still laugh about.  Pop culture references encouraged.
Best Plot: The all-important plot hook~ it doesn't have to be unique, just great.
Best Location or City:  Setting-based award.
Player of the Year: This person (who has played 1 or more games) is the ideal player- he knows the rules, is a clever strategist, and helps make the games he/she is in fun.
Best Sounding Board:
Quote
It'd be for those that give help to others when building characters or cities. Sorta similar to Best Board Contributor, but on a more personal level. They are some of the people I talk to most when trying to suss out a character idea, or stunt/power, or plotline.
Best DFRPG Board Contributor:
for those who have been incredibly helpful, gave enciteful opinions, and has been generally positive on the board in general.
GM of the Year: This Game Master (of 1 or more games) allows for fluid gameplay and a fun, memorable, epic time.
Best DFRPG Game Overall: The best game overall- plot, dialogue, NPCs, combat, through-and-through-the-best.

Also, if someone has a more fitting Award Name OR more categories please PERSONAL MESSAGE me and I'll consider changing it.

Example:

Best DFRPG Game Overall: A Hard Rain Falls  (Seattle)

Since I did not participate/was not involved in that game, this counts as 1 of the 2 votes for full nomination

Yes, post them here, but unfortunately FtF began in 2011 (January 2nd).

How do you feel about dead games being posted here? Should we count their deaths against them?

*Any game is ok, as long as actual gameplay occurred.  Most of the games that started in 2010 are in fact dead since it's so far into 2011 (I meant do do this in January :P ).
*The double nomination/voting should clear out any deadwood among nominations.
*If a GM lets a game die or it crashed for any bad reason, it should reflect in the final voting.

I would like to nominate a category of Best DFRPG Board Contributor. It would be for those who have been incredibly helpful, gave enciteful opinions, and has been generally positive on the board in general.

If this is an acceptable Catagory I would like to nominate Sanctaphrax for all of his efforts towards the Resource Board and the DFRPG wiki which he helped set up.

^Excellent Idea.  And I'll be the 2nd person to nominate Sanctaphrax.

I have two nominations to throw in...

Game of the Year: The Highway to Hell (A cityless DFRPG Campaign)
Seriously... I want to be a part of this game, it's that good.

GM of the Year: AdmiralDuckSauce (GM of "The Highway to Hell" game)
This guy seems to work really hard at making the game as enjoyable as possible for all of his players. Has his plans laid-out, including soundtrack, but is willing to let it all go to hell for a well-spent fate point "that could make it MORE AWESOME."

I invite you all to read for yourself http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,21813.0.html

Thanks for posting.  I'll second the nomination for the game (I'll let someone knows more about ADS second his nomination).

Thanks, guys.  :)   I'll nominate Mij (Undertown) for GM of the Year.  I can't imagine the kind of cat-herding willpower it takes to organize a bi-weekly chatroom game.  And then he's working on releasing the city writeup to boot!

You beat me to it.

He should get an award for the writeup which I am hoping everyone gets a chance to read before nominations are over.

Alright, that's 2 nominations for Mij.  If you want to nominate the game as well for one of the other categories, please indicate so for Best Plot or Game of the Year.

I'll nominate "The Highway to Hell" for Best Plot.

Thanks for the praise, guys. I'll try to live up to it.

I'll second the admiral's GM nomination. I don't know him personally, but if his posts here are even remotely indicative he deserves that award.

Nominating a game:

Big Fish In A Little Pond (GM'd by Crimson Overcoat) for Game of the Year.
I was really dissapointed when this game died. It was a lot of fun to read.

Nominating a person:

Deadmanwalking for Best DFRPG Boards Contributor.
This guy's my inspiration when it comes to DFRPG. He isn't around anymore, but he was very prolific through most of 2010.

I'll look around and see if I can find likely candidates for other categories.
