How does Hulking Size affect Fists, Weapons?
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:36:01 AM »
They're listed in Skills Affected, but I don't see any bonuses or penalties (probably bonuses, more like...) listed for those skills in the description?

as far as i remember - don't have the books with me at the moment - hulking size affects the damage from fists and weapon attacks.

Hulking size doesn't benefit fists and weapons. I believe the mentioned skill set to be a glitch in the rulebook.

According to the trappings that are listed, hulking size effects Endurance (extra stress), Athletics (for defense and sprinting), Might (+2 on breaking and lifting on top of a possible supernatural strength skill), Intimidation, Stealth and numerous other skills that relate to the use of objects that are meant to be used by humans.

However: Somebody with Hulking Size is likely to have at least Inhuman Strength, so you'll get the boni from this. I think this is where the glitch might have originated from. If you like you can interpret the "Everything is Small" trapping like the "[...] Blows" trappings from the Strength-Skills. Actually it makes a lot of sense to me to do that, even if it is not indicated by the rules.

There is no glitch.

As you said before, defensive capabilities are affected by the size, negatively thereby fists (defense) and weapons (defense) are affected, too.

Actually, it's not the defenses of the Hulking Sized Creature that are affected, but the attacks of those attacking said creature.
But that's basically the same thing, so I'm just nitpicking... again...  :P

Would something were-dolphin-size qualify for "Hulking Size"? Or would that be more appropriate for a were-orca? Were-whale? Were-narwhale?

As far as "Your Story" reads, there isn't a "limit". But I'd say 8ft tall, or incredibly massive. Even a gorilla in Our World doesn't have hulking size. So if it is actual dolphin sized, no hulking. Orca, definitely.

It depends on what your GM and the rest of the group would decide.
Personally i would say that an orca clearly qualifies for hulking size, a narwhale (11 - 12 feet and several hundred lb of body mass) would also qualify for hulking size, while a dolphin should be to small.

The smallest creature with hulking size in OW seems to be the Bridge Troll and/or the Ogre. Everything bigger then them qualifies. In my opinion a large narwhale would be kinda troll sizish. A dolphin most certainly not.

Best size I've seen is if it is over 1000 pounds/over 9 feet tall.

Truthfully, nothing makes a 10 foot spider have a hard time hitting a person. It's so spindly and whatnot. So there really isn't a hard cap one way or the other.

Um... didn't we found out that Hulking Size doesn't do anything to help you hit any better? Only thing it helps you with is hitting harder and getting hit a lot more while being able to take more of a beating.

In general I agree with your argument. As so often in this system, the line where to start with Hulking Size is a fluent one. But at least in my opinion a 10 foot spider is freaking Hulking Sized!
