Savannah Aspects

Tomorrow my players and I begin city/character creation for Savannah, Georgia.  I was wondering if any natives of the city (or just people who are familiar with it) might have ideas for aspects we could use as themes.  (Threats, after all, are going to reflect which powers we decide are probably at work in the city.)

Ideas I've had so far include:

Living in the Past (Haunted by the Past, maybe?)
The Good Host
The Melting Pot is Boiling Over (reflects not only the tensions between different religious groups, such as voodoo and Christianity, but also the dangerous mixing and blending of the different supernatural forces at work)
Sinking Beneath the Surface (reflects not only Savannah's tendency for flooding, but also how the dark forces at work in the city are beginning to rise up and envelop the mortals)

I went to college in Savannah, so here are a few suggestions:

Be sure to use Bonaventure Cemetary, the most creepy-awesome boneyard I've ever been to.  Perfect home for a powerful Black Court faction.

IMO, Red Court should be very strong there; a bastion of any Old South vampires still left over from before the Civil War.  Hell, the White Court would fit here, too, for that matter.  Vampires love Savannah and Savannah loves Vampires. :)

Government corruption is a problem there... one time when I was at school there, a hurricane was threatening to come through and the mayor ordered the entire city to be evacuated.  From I have heard, that evacutation effectively prevented the mayor's political rivals from submitting their electoral paperwork in time to be on the ballot, so the mayor ran unopposed that year.

The college I went to (the Savannah College of Art & Design) is a major player in the city and they are responsible for the restoration of many, many buildings in the historic district.  They get kickbacks from historical societies and governments for preserving historical buildings and do it all on-the-cheap by using the practically-free labor of their architectural students.

I'll suggest more later.

Fort Paulaski (sp?) could be a fun setting too.  Civil war era fort still in quite wonderful condition.  I have pics.  PM me if you'd like to see 'em.

You might have a "Steeped in Tradition" Aspect.  It is still very southern down there and they have a great big parade every year and all kinds of family events to celebrate the founding of the city and what not.

Went through most of creation today.  Still working on a few location aspects, but the three main themes/threats of the city are:

Haunted by the Past
Mask of Politeness
Sinking Beneath the Surface (considering renaming The Water Is Rising)

I also went to the Savannah College of Art and Design. Go SCADGrads.

Anywho, the entire area is built on a series of islands and each one has its own history, neighborhoods, etc. If you branch out of the downtown area, you may want to consider using the islands and waterways in some way.

And SCAD influences the city significantly. They own some interesting buildings (an old nursing school, a train depot turned into classrooms, that kind of thing) which could be useful. And paint majors could easily camouflage all kinds of weirdness. Just keep your magic users away from Montgomery during finals or a mass of animators, game designers and digital artists may commit a TPK.
