Research Help

I'm currently enrolled at Rutgers University in a MLIS(Master's in Library and Info Science) program and for one of my classes we have to find someone who needs to find some information and basically help them find whatever they're looking for as a term project.  I couldn't really think of anyone I know personally that needs that kind of help, so I thought this would be a good place to ask(and the professor ok'd it already).  Being a university student, I have access to a lot of databases and resources the average person probably doesn't, so that should be helpful to whoever is looking for something that they're having a hard time finding.

Anyway, please just let me know if I can help.  I haven't really thought of a fair selection process, other than that it has to be something more than some basic statistics or simple facts(as per the professor's instructions).  Obviously, I can only cover one person's needs for this project.  I'll try to come up with a fair way to pick someone when I see how many of you actually need/want my help.  Of course, if Jim happens to see this and actually wants my help, you guys are on your own  .

Have you thought of posting it outside Author Craft, say, in Mac's, so that more people would see it? And what kind of field are you proposing research for?

That sounds like a really cool term project.

I would ask for your help, but I don't really have any projects on hand that really need researching (if only I had English 3 this semester...). I'd also ask for your help on my Personal Project (I'm in the IBMYP program), but I'm planning to write a fanfic of The Dresden Files (which, I know, is frowned upon in general, but I don't plan to publish it). The major problems with that is that I'm not sure if I can get Jim's permission to write it (plagarism will get you kicked out of MYP).

How long do you have to find someone?

Or I'm looking for a good source that might give me an idea of a meal after a death in a traditional jewish family at the time of Christ... Yeah, that one is probably impossible!  LOL  I haven't started researching that either.  I've friends to ask but doubt they will know how things would have changed from 2000 years ago!

Or I've lost my source from a philosopher who started the school in Edessa around the 300 to 400's well known for his music litergy and I'm specifically looking for the text of his sermon or psalm about the "Guilty Woman" or the "sinful Woman" or something like that.  I found it on google. 

All, I can find on my own eventually but if you really want some research experience to report on I'll keep you in mind!  I've already done a ton of research, but there is always more that I can use to add texture and depth! 

After that particular writing project I'll be jumping into the story behind a female sea commander who was Persian.  She shouldn't be too hard to find as she was well known.  I've a year before I jump into that one, but always willing to start research on it....  Oh and maps from the time along with pertinent historical events at the time.

Are you tired yet?  Yes, I was a junior librarian in my day.  Finding answers was my primary job in high school and college.  It's easier now.

Well, I thought here would be the place people would most have research to actually do, but I just posted it on Mac's.  No specific field in mind, just something that would probably interest me.  So probably not anything too hardcore science-y.

I have to hand in my topic for what I'm going to research on October 1st.

Options 2,3, and 4 sound interesting, but I'll have to double-check with the prof first.  1 is probably too shallow for a term project.  And I got 4:41 p.m.

OK, here's one (maybe somebody else can help with this too:)  Which upstate NY prison would a non-violent bank robber have been sent to in 1943 for ripping off a Brinks truck?  First offense; he was also a respected bank manager before he decided to turn to crime.

Uhmm.  Doubt they had minimum security prisons in 1943.  Love the image of the black/white brinks truck carrening around a corner on two wheels.  I assume no guns actualy used and no one was hurt right?

Another possibility for mayhem!  My safety deposit box is across the street from work.  That branch is closing down and guess what? They move the entire wall of safety deposit boxes at once, so you don't have to go clear it out.  They have told me that worthless paperwork inside, like my abstract and my backup writing flash drives, will be "transfered in a safe and controlled process.  The safe deposit boxes are moved intact.  A security company facilitates the move, accompanied by an off-duty police escort."


Now this is a small town.  Our off duty officers are usually hired for such exciting work as when the Center for Disease control have sheep show up with some rare and potentially dangerous illness. Of course the just sit at the end of the driveway, eat and drink coffee.  :-)

I finally got the go ahead from my professor, who said that the Persian sea commander sounded like a good topic for the project(that or the Jewish funeral meal, but she told me to pick the one that sounded more interesting to me, no offense), so if you are still willing to let me help, I'm ready whenever.  Just let me know and then I'll start contacting you via PM.

You got it.  The Persian sea commander is far enough down the road that it would be excellent.  My e-mail should be in my profile.  :-)  I hope you Ace the class.  You're not charging me for this, right?  LOL  Just mention, RESEARCH in the subject.  I'm taking an online writing class and all the posts are cramming my e-mail box to capacity.  I think I solved the problem by being anti-social.

Good luck, my wife is a Librarian when shes not playing army. There is a helluva lot more to that degree then I thought.
