Personal Avatars???
« on: December 13, 2006, 10:34:44 AM »
Will there come a time where we will be able to upload our own personal avatars? Family friendly ones that is.

I can use whatever avatar I want, as long as I host it somewhere else. (ie: Photobucket).  Currently my icon is not available to select for the board, but I'm using it.  I don't know if you have to be at a certain post count before you're able to use your own icon.  But it'll give you the option below the main selection area.  It'll have the http:// and you just add the rest of the URL.

I thought that some weird board defect dictated that you had to have 100+ posts to use your own avatar, but Kiriath just posted with her own image, and she only has 39 posts.  Maybe the defect was fixed when Fred switched board styles?  Try uploading an icon to Photobucket, as Shiggy recommended.

It's not a "defect," as much as an SMF setting.  I'm guessing Fred got in and changed the settings with the board overhaul.

It is easy to set up personal avatars, as far as I can tell.

However, I am above that 100 post count.

Hmm.

Am I the only one who actually misses having only those avatars they had put there for us to use?  No offense Lord Nedd, but your oh-so-tall picture is weirding me out....

Well, I do believe Iago asked him to resize it to normal size in another thread, but I don't think he's made it back to that thread yet.

I think all icons should be Jim related and 100x100 or under.

Is there a proper ettiquette for creating avatars thread or sticky that I missed?

Inicidentally, Iago did ask me to resize it, which I have done.  However, I am not sure that he was concerned about the old or new versions. The 2nd iteration was about 175 x 100.  The first iteration was about 125% larger.

Sorry L.N.  I know I originally asked because it was overly large in general, and then Iago mentioned the height and also mentioned it should be normal sized.

I don't want to get anyone mad at me.  But maybe we should ask him to streamline the size requirements.  I know other boards put it in the board admin's controls to make it so someone can't load an icon over a certain size.

Hehe.

I can say for certain that I wasn't angry.  More confused, because I hadn't seen anything from Iago.  By the third iteration, he said everything looked a.o.k.
