Thanks! I'm afraid she will read almost anything I throw at her. She devours books in no time flat. The only thing I've had to stop her from reading so far is Laurel K. Hamilton (I think I got the name right) and that's for obvious reasons if you've read her work. She's still a bit too young to go that far past rated "R" writing. LOL
The 1st couple books might not be to bad (I read the entire series (currently written) in January, so everything's a bit of a blur), but most of that series is definitely in the NC-17 category.

yeah I'm 35 and there are times I go "Wow! I need a cigarette!" after reading some of her stuff. Papaw let her get one from the library and I had to snag it the second I saw it so she wouldn't read it. Once I explained it to her she was fine with it. She's read the Twilight series 5 times already and she just skipped the parts she didn't want to read in the last book. She's read all dresden files books twice and is on her second time through Turn Coat. I'm gonna have to hit the lottery just to keep her in books! LOL Hope Mr. Butcher writes faster! LOL
How am I supposed to think outside of the box if they won't let me out of it?

Perhaps get her started on the Codex Alera series Jim writes?

IDK, let me know if she's too young, peeps, I haven't read CA yet myself.
If you are up to no good, please do no good for me too, okay?   ;D

Codex is considerably more appropriate than Anita.  Though it has it's more adult issues as well.  Where in Anita they are mostly sexual issues.  In Codex................well............they are pretty violent.  Lots of blood and guts, and heads exploding and such.  But if she is okay with Dresden, Codex is more violent, but not a LOT more.

Hello! I was at the signing as well, and Jim was warm, hilarious and relaxed in front of the crowd of eager readers. I agree with him on the whole 'author reading' bit. He stated that he appreciates them not asking him to do a reading because "well, I assume all my readers know how to read."

I live an hour away from Dayton, and was told by the event coordinator that I could not get my copy of Turn Coat signed, but luckily I brought my copy of Princep's Fury. He ended up signing them both, though. I did in good faith look for a copy of Mean Streets or Welcome to the Jungle, which they had already sold out of. Oh well

One question for you longtime followers of Mr. Butcher's work: he mentioned the classes he took with a well published author and how that author's influence and suggestions made Jim write his first successful book, (Stormfront) despite his worst intentions. Who was this mentor? I am curious to see if they have a 'How To' book alongside their evident 40 or so published books..

Ugh, this is downright embarrassing. I just recently joined the boards and haven't surfed the whole forum yet. Jim was here 10 days ago, I LIVE in Dayton and knew nothing about it. I should be shot.

Hugs are my second favorite thing in the world. The first involves hugging, but is more vigorous.

I was at the Dayton signing, and I must say that Jim Butcher is an exceptionally humorus and articulate speaker. He was great to listen to, and answered all the questions to the best of his ability without giving too much away. I really enjoyed his answer concerning his "awareness" of fan fiction, and his answer to my question about how he got started as an author. I knew some of the story, but he went into great detail and told more than I was aware of. Seeing as it is his life he was talking about, that would seem appropriate.  ;)

I had a great time and will definitely watch for him to be in the area again.

He was so kind to answer two of my questions.  The first about collaborating with his wife.  "No, because we want to stay married."  :)

The second about the bet that started the Codex Alera series.  It's such a great story, and he really went into detail about it.  He could have just gave a simple answer.  But instead he made sure that everyone there knew the story behind it.
